Car accidents are usually very dangerous. Even low-speed car accidents can leave you with injuries that are very painful or stressful. These injuries can be very costly especially considering that you may end up not being able to attend to your daily duties at work and home. Finding out any accidents sustained in car accidents and their subsequent treatments for quick healing is vital in helping you get back to your normal life. Below we will look at how you should respond to Seattle car accident injuries and treat them for quick healing.
See a Doctor Car accidents lead to the generation of endorphins and adrenaline. This means that it can be difficult to notice that you have sustained any injuries as you will feel energized and most importantly fine. In some cases, Seattle car accident injuries do not show any symptoms for days or even weeks. No matter how you feel, make sure that you see a doctor after the car accident for a full medical check-up to ensure that everything is okay. Doctors will be able to look past how you feel and see whether everything is alright. This is recommended for all car accident victims. Whiplash Whiplash is one of the most common injuries when it comes to car accident injuries. After the visit to the doctor’s office, you will be able to establish the type of injuries suffered. Whiplash comes about as a result of the neck and head being thrown forward and then back with a lot of force and speed. You can take care of whiplash injuries by using a combination of measures including neck massages, an upright sitting posture, painkillers and most importantly keeping your neck mobile. Whiplash is one of the injuries that can be sustained during a Seattle car accident and does not have any direct cures. Taking great care of it will, however, help you get rid of it with time. Other Minor Injuries Where you have not suffered any major injuries but have some knocks and bruises, you can use age old self-care procedures to nurse yourself back to health. For instance putting some ice on a bump sustained from knocking against the car interior during a Seattle car accident in the first 48 hours will help you increase circulation. This helps the blood supply the area with much-needed healing nutrients. This should then be followed up with the application of ice to reduce inflammation. A Seattle car accident can leave you suffering in pain and agony from the injuries sustained. However, with the right self-care knowledge and techniques you can be able to nurse yourself back to health in no time and get back to your normal routine. This is a very common question from my patients following any type of trauma, but especially with car accident's The whiplash and trauma that happen during a car accident create damage to the neck, and this damage can create what is called "radiating pain". If your neck was damaged following a car accident and it is creating radiating headaches, this is referred to as a "cervicogenic headache". Cervicogenic headaches are headaches where the pain originates in the neck and cervical spine. It is medically defined as pain which is present in the head but originates in cervical spine region. Neck pain and headache often occur together.
There are nearly 20 muscles in the neck which, if hurt, can refer pain to the head. The neck is one of the most vulnerable parts of human body, and if any of these 20 muscles in the neck are strained, the throbbing sensations can reach up to the head causing severe headaches. Cervicogenic headaches are often accompanied by other symptoms like nausea, throbbing pain, pain behind the eyes, photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light), phonophobia (sensitivity to sounds) etc. The pain can vary from mild to severe in different people. The headache can get worse by frequent and abrupt neck and head movements. Treating Cervicogenic Headaches: Lets talk about a few methods of treating and getting rid of cervicogenic headaches so that the problem no longer bothers us and we can get back to our normal life as quickly as possible. 1. Medication - Seeing your primary care physician can be a good idea no matter what when you are in a car accident, but especially if you are having a cervicogenic headache. Your doc can give you some medications that can dull and even take away the pain for a short time. 2. Massage - Gentle stretching exercises and neck massage can be really helpful in alleviating the pain caused by cervicogenic headaches. The muscles near the base of the skull may be strained and massage can help in soothing these muscles. Massage therapy can provide you the greatest relief in short period of time, allowing you to return to your work quickly. 3. Posture improvement - Maintaining a poor posture for a long period of time can lead to cervical joint stiffness, which in turn can lead to cervicogenic headaches. Whiplash injuries primary area of insult is to the overall structure and alignment of the neck, and this is why chiropractic is so important following these types of injuries as this is what chiropractors treat. It is important to correct your posture. Apart from the above mentioned treatment methods, you need to take sufficient rest. There are also several exercises to strengthen neck muscles that your chiropractor will give you to create long lasting relief. Doing such exercises regularly can be beneficial in getting rid of cervicogenic headaches as well as preventing them from re-occurring in future. If you have been in a car accident and are suffering from headaches please consult the advise of your chiropractor as they will be able to help guide you out of pain. Car Accidents: 98,820
Car Accident Injuries: 45,209 Car Accident Fatalities: 454 These are obviously numbers for the entire state of Washington, but we must deduce that the majority of these number are centered around Seattle, and Bellevue. Car accidents are becoming an avoidable epidemic. This infographic shows the effects that these accidents can have.
I hear the following statement, or some semblance of it almost on a daily basis, "I was so afraid to come in and see you because I was afraid you would 'pop' me, and it would hurt, but I was so amazed that not only did you not pop me, it did not hurt!" So what makes us different here at Bellevue Whiplash Center, at Back in Action Chiropractic? We use technology to help us fix your neck and back which allows use to be very gentle with our adjustments.
Our chiropractic adjustments are to help the joints and ligaments of your spine heal following a motor vehicle accident. The purpose is to improve your body’s functioning and alleviate pain. Adjustments, especially for car accidents, are most commonly made to joints in your back, and neck, but also if you have injury's to other parts of your body we may treat other parts of the body, such as the shoulders, knees, wrists, or ankles. Chiropractic has been shown to help with not only whiplash injury's and back pain, but conditions such as: • Neck, back, shoulder, arm, hand, chest, leg, or foot pain and stiffness • Headaches • Sciatica • Arthritis • Scoliosis • Sports injuries • Repetitive strain disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome • Fibromyalgia If chiropractic is new to you, you may have a bit of a hard time relaxing on your first visit, and this is nothing to worry about, as we will slowly explain everything we are doing and work with you. As you get used to the procedures you should find that it is relaxing, and you may feel relief and a sense of well-being after the adjustment. After your first treatment, you may feel some soreness or aching in the muscles or joints. If it occurs, this kind of discomfort usually mimics the soreness that you may feel after a vigorous exercise routine. It should not last longer than 24 hours. Typically an ice pack on the affected area of soreness in this case should help reduce the soreness and help you recover quickly. If you have been involved in a Bellevue auto accident, be sure you choose a board-certified chiropractor with good patient references. An experienced, competent practitioner will be able to give you the most effective treatment possible with the least amount of discomfort.
